Dress Code

Meticulous grooming is part of good dance training! Proper dance clothing makes it easy for the teacher to observe the alignment of the body and muscles of the legs so the student can receive corrections that will improve their technique. Required dance wear and dance shoes must be worn to all classes.

All the required dance wear and shoes are available for purchase at he the studio. Heartland students receive a discount.

Failure to wear required dance wear to class can result in students being asked to sit out  the class.  Repeated failure to wear required dance wear can result in termination of lessons.

All girls students must wear: Hair pulled back and off the neck.  For ballet a bun is required.  Hair nets or bun covers are available for purchase at the front desk. For safety: no earrings, rings, watches or necklaces.

Ages 3-11: A solid colored leotard, pink, white, or flesh colored tights. Balera pink ballet slippers. Skirts: Simple short chiffon skirts are allowed with attached or elastic waist for  the younger student.

Ages 5 & Older: Students will need Balera tap shoes. Older students do not wear their skirts at the barre so I can observe the leg muscles, but may wear them in the center.

Exceptions:  Students who are seniors in high school can wear any color leotard they want, but instructor has veto power! Students who forget their dance clothes may borrow our freshly laundered loaner leotard and tights.  However, to help students learn to be responsible, the next time they forget they will be asked to sit and observe class and take notes.

Not allowed: To allow for proper foot development, no split sole ballet slippers for ages 3-11. No sequins, fluffy skirts, long skirts. Our students are expected to have a simple elegant look.  If you have a question about any dance wear, ask before your child wears it.  Tell grandmas too!
